Re: New to banana growing
In Maryland, I would recommend digging them and bringing them in unless they are Basjoo.
Welcome!

Re: New to banana growing
Welcome Mike.
You are zone 7 i like the idea of digging them up and storing them for the winter that spuctinc7 suggested. This method seems to be used often by members in the colder regions. I however being in Texas I heavy mulch, wrap the pstem in bubble wrap, and cut the top leaves back to pstem and cover with trash bag. Seems to work very well for me. Haven't lost any yet happy growing, Darla

Re: New to banana growing
Thank you all for your quick responses.
On one of the other pages I had posted that I bought dwarf California's and dwarf cavendish. I have 3 cavendish and one of the California's and they are in half oak barrels, so they are about 20 inches in diameter. |

Re: New to banana growing
Wow. Taking those in will be a chore. You gonna build a greenhouse around em instead?

Re: New to banana growing
MD...memories...brrrrr....Elkton even more brrrr....shivers. Get thee a darned good handtruck and you're good to go. Unless your storage space is in the basement or attic/different story from garden. Actually it's not that bad to move pots (BTDT--same level and basement) but check around for used tree pots--much lighter than whiskey barrels which are very nice for outside annual displays but generally pricey so wasted on musas IMO.

Re: New to banana growing
I do have a small green house and a hand truck. I am looking at the possibility of a second green house, so I can add some variety as well as plant vegetable starts for the garden.
