Naner Newbie Ready for some good info
 

Good Day all,:08:
I am a Banana newbie from Mechanicsville, VA. My wife and I got some plants from one of her friends at her work, have transplanted them in the ground, now have transplant shock now. What is the best way treat these babies at this point. :bananas_b

What kind? Any photos? More info needed as to where and how planted before anyone can really help. Meantime, welcome aboard, you will have FUN!! especially as these things grow FAST!!

Thanks and Good morning pjkfarm, they are Musa Basjoos planted in Virginia, they were dug up and transplanted. I will provide pictures this afternoon.

Welcome to the Jungle...:woohoonaner:

It takes 30+ days for the plant to sort itself out.

Hopefully you planted your new plants in well amended soil with lots of room to grow.

Agree with cincinnana, but would add DRAINAGE! Basjoo to survive the winter hate wet feet. In fact we have only been able to get them to survive by planting where there is no run off onto them and the ground is not flat - in other words, at the top of a mound or hill. Our best mat is at the top of a root cellar mound! No problem with ground water :-) or run-off!

Yes they do get shade, I also trimmed the bad ones all except the cigar.

From the photos, they all look very happy. We just planted 11 of them and yours look better:-) We let ours dry well before planting which leaves the leaves rather ragged looking (dry referring to the cut corm which we do to lessen chance of rot. Generally no more than a week or ten days, no less than 3. And as said before, it takes a while for them to settle in!
