Nahiku, Maui, here, not far from Hana

I have 100 acres of beautiful land, sloping up the side of the volcano, Haleakala, on Maui. Super rich, iron-loaded soil, with lots of sun and rain...20 feet a year! You just throw stuff on the ground, here... and, it grows.

Love bananas, and thought I would want to cultivate every banana on earth (lol), but how do I get the different varieties to the east side of Maui? Like folks do with rare seed, or palms. There are some banana plantations, and individual growers, here. I'll contact the arboretums, too. Looks as though there are growers on this site. I need to check what can be brought in from the mainland (or overseas) - Hawaii is very strict - unless someone out there knows. Any ideas? Good to be here...Aloha, Mike

There is a place in Kaneohe (can't remember the name) that has plenty of banana types, many Hawaiian, that you won't find elsewhere. All you see in stores anymore is 'Dwarf Apple' (you'd think that is the only banana left in the world). Another source might be Gabe.

Kahuna Gardens and Mahele Farm next to it are great sources of keiki. No bunchy top there yet! Kahuna has let me dig keiki myself. I gave them a donation of approximately $25 per keiki.
