![]() I recently purchased a Basjoo 2 weeks ago. I'm getting approx. 3 new leaves a week and the plant is about 9" tall. I planted it in the ground and the first week it did great. This week the leaves are turning brown on the edges and spots all over the leaf. The new leaves are also coming out with brown spots on them. The edges of the leaves also looked chewed. Any help would be greatly appreciated at this point. Thank you.

![]() It gets watered at least 3 times a week. We are currently having 95 degree temps. My soil mixture is peat moss, sand, vermiculite and dehydrated horse manure plus the native soil which is clay. It gets approx. 8 hours of sun per day
I'm new to the group and I'm not sure how to post pictures of his tree. Thanks Loretta Last edited by Loretta : 07-15-2015 at 10:30 PM. |

![]() I believe you said in your original post that it had been recently planted ( a few weeks ? ). The soil mixture sounds really good... the level of light is fine.. the water seems adequate ( mine get watered a minimum of every other day ). It could simply be "shock" from being transplanted and possibly from moving from a lower light level to a higher light level. I'd give it time.. and possibly some more water ( every other day ). Bananas need a lot of organic matter and a lot of water.. I've had some that did that initially, but after a few weeks perked right up. The plants will first put out roots before new growth as long as it has sufficient leaves for photosynthesis.. so, although you may not see growth "top side" as long as the center leaf looks healthy; you are likely getting foundational growth on the "bottom side" ( roots ).

![]() Was it in a pot when you got it?
Sam is probably right. Transplant shock. I have been using pure coarse sand when planting everything. No shock, no brown, no problems. |

Though I'm very new to growing bananas of any type, that plant looks hungry to me. I'm a big fan of composted trees and brush for my "dirt" whether the base is clay or sand mostly because I've rarely had access to manure; it's worked for me for over 30 years. If it were mine, I'd dose it with liquid fertilizer mixed fairly weak and mulch it with coffee grounds from a shop nearby.

![]() This plant looks like a tc to me. The newest leaf is looking better. Keep doing what you are doing, maybe you need to give it less sun exposure until it is more established.
