Default Musa basjoo hole size?

This spring, I planted several musa basjoos around my garden, & they all are growing pretty well! My question is, just how big a hole do you guys recommend for growing a healthy, tall, pup-forming clump of basjoos? I dug a hole right around 3 feet wide and 16 inches deep for each individual basjoo, & was hoping that size was big enough for them. So far, my 3-inch tall starters I planted in march are now 3 feet tall, forming pups at their bases, but after having seen the sheer size of some basjoos around town, i was hoping my 3 foot wide, 16 inch deep holes were enough to accomodate that kind of vigorous growth!

Default Re: Musa basjoo hole size?

I would say, that this depends very much on the general condition of the soil in the area in which you
plant your basjoos. If it is generally good humus, you only have to dig a hole, which accommodates
the roots comfortably.

If the soil is not so good, what you are doing sounds good to me. A 3 feet diameter seems to allow
plenty of room for your pups to emerge and prosper. They all come out of the corm and not from
underground runners (rhizomes).

You should see some of the tiny pots, which some of the posters here grow their bananas in.
