Maine Bananas

Hello, I live in midcoastal Maine. This is not exactly the area one thinks of when bananas are the topic. I was given a 12" high dwarf Cavendish two years ago. It has been thriving and we transplanted it to a 10 gallon pot. It is now 5 feet high with 6 going on 7 leaves. Obvoiusly we take it indoors for are nordic-like winters. My question is what happens when it's too tall for a 9 foot ceiling? Can I safely lop off the top without doing harm? I would greatly appreciate suggestions from anyone's similar dilema. Welcome! I'd be surprised if it gets that high in a pot ... but others here might have different experiences!

Seriously I'm no expert but this year I took a banana from Florida and brought it back to Tennessee. I cut it off at 1'5" to fit in the suitcase. Its been almost a month later and I have 2 leaves on it. I'd say if you have it in direct sunlight you have a shot at it.
Maybe on of the guru's can give futher advice.

I like the chain saw idea, don't want to limit your nanners growth

but on the serious side

a Dwarf Cavendish should only reach a height of about 6-8 feet. in a pot, I'ld take a foot give or take 6 inches off of that. I have one that has been in a pot, graduating to a 25 gal. pot over the last year. Big pot= big heavy to move, but it seems to be very happy. I live in zone 5, N. Illinois,

buzzwinder go to lowes they have the rolley things that you can put plants on and they have decorations on them. makes a big pot easy to move.

Or go to Harbour Freight and you can get a hand truck for about 20 bucks.

Thanks, between momma and I, we could carry them when we moved into our new house the start of june, as for this fall, I'm thinking big two wheel hand truck to tote around, as of right now, the big blue bucket has handles that I can use to drag them from the patio into the grass when needed, when fall gets here I'm gonna need help to get them through my sliding door into the family room. But I'm a willing victim of banadom as these plants are so cool to Watch Them Grow, amazing 5-6 inches in a few days, just amazing

Many years ago, I brought my first banana corms, that the locals told me were Gros Michel, from St. Lucia. We had them in front of glass patio doors, in a family room, with a suspended ceiling. When they started to push the ceiling panels out, we gave them to a friend who had an indoor pool. They actually got fruit on them. The Dwarf Cavendish, however, shouldn't get to that point.
