Welcome to bananas.org
Not sure what you mean with "tie up" methods, but I also grow banana plants in (bad) clay soil. I supplement with lots of compost and mulch to get better root development and of course to add nutritional value.

I load my soil with biochar to keep it loose and airy. I have also read about many wind resistant varieties. I think mysore was a tough one.

You are going to need something wide and soft that will also be strong enough to withstand those winds. My suggestion would be to use gym socks. They are very strong, and you can spread them flat to cover a wide area of the plant. Tie your string or wire to each end, and be certain that you spread the sock flat. You may also wrap it around once to help with slippage, if you use old, worn out socks that have stretched.

Why would you use old socks? Do you have any idea how much time it takes to make them old and comfortable? Lol! Just kiddin' buddy!

Well here in the good ol' USA, we actually wear socks. Eventually, they stretch to about twice their original size, and at that point, they typically have a hole or two in the toe.

I do realize that up there in the Great White North, supplies only come through every other year or so, so I can understand your consternation. An 8 y/o pair of socks must be very valuable in your Three Rivers outpost.

I also have a few pair of partially broken in underwear as well, in the event that you are running short. Do you guys still wait in line for toilet paper? I have some extra if you need it.

LOL, back atcha, mon ami!

Well, my friend, first of all:

1- We don't call them holes when we have them in our socks. We call that new technology advanced aeration system.

2- When your underwear is old and your wife complains about it, we change the wife! There's nothing more comfortable than an old pair of undies.

3- Who wipes?

Lol! It had to go there!!!

I get your point for the socks though.

Haha! Even though JP and I have never met, we have that Blue Brother connection via the badge. We tend to act like old friends, which is typical of LEOs.

When I was a Blue Knight, we used to have a saying: "There is no such thing as a stranger in the Blue Knights; only friends you haven't met yet."

Kinda like all of us on here.

Thanks, do you have ideas on structures to hold up the plant in windy conditions? Tripod with sandbags?

thanks
