I've gone Bananas
It is nice to be part of a community I can appreciate and perhaps will appreciate what little I may be able to contribute as well. I love bananas. Even is scientifically it may still be considered a spice, I use them as a vegie and, my favorite, as a fruit. I love my walks through the gardens when the budding banana flowers are in bloom and the fragrance takes over the grounds.
Many may not know, but bananas is a major source for the feeding humingbirds. So don't cut that parlote just yet... there may be a few hums still depending on those flowers...:goteam: :woohoonaner:Looking forward to some chats and postings...my love to all. |
Re: I've gone Bananas
Welcome Profesor. It sounds like you have some great plants that you care about and you can never have enough hummiingbirds. Please tell us more and any pictures would be great as well.

Re: I've gone Bananas
Welcome, Proffesor X! Whereabouts are you located, to have a high enough hummingbird population to notice that they love bananas? Tell us more!
Here in Ecuador, I generally leave the inflorescence on until the bracts stop opening, and then cut it off and eat it. There are a couple of really stunning species with purple and electric blue plumage that hang in the banana patch, and I wouldn't want to discourage them. |
Re: I've gone Bananas
Welcome, Professor! I see hummingbirds at my banana blooms quite often. They really seem to love them.

Welcome to the organization Xavier!!
It is good to have another in the organization that appreciates ecological relationships of bananas. Some of us have long enjoyed the nectar production of bananas that attract many creatures as well as humming birds. Check out my photo gallery in other plants, I have several hummimg bird attracting plants. Best wishes and welcome! :2239: |

Re: I've gone Bananas
Belated welcome Profesor Xavier - we are practically neighbours!! Thank you for the bananabucks and it is nice to meet someone else in our gorgeous part of the world. Yes, lots of birds come for the flowers - we get a lot of bananaquits after the banana flowers here too, as well as hummingbirds.
