Introduction: Carol Stiff
Hi. I am Carol Stiff. Scot Nyman invited me to join this group. I started the Home Tissue Culture Listserv in 1998 as well as my company, Kitchen Culture Kits Inc. We promote hobby tissue culture, sell supplies and teach workshops. Recently we started a new company that will take over the most of the work that KCK did. Kitchen Culture Eduation Technologies Inc. is a new non-profit 501(c)(3) company dedicated to plant science education. Our subsidiary, Home Tissue Culture Group will focus on plant tissue culture for home and classroom. We will be operational shortly and will sell kits and supplies and teach workshops and offer memberships. One of the benefits of the memberships will be discounts from various vendors. We switched to a non-profit company so we could take advantage of grant money available only to non-profits. We want to subsidize the workshops we teach with grant money as well as support schools and community groups.
The KCET website is: Kitchen Culture Education Technologies, Inc. The HTCG website is not quite ready but a draft can be seen at: Home Tissue Culture* Group Note we are having a logo contest and all are welcome to submit drawings. If there are vendors you would like to get discounts from, please let us know and I'll see if I can negotiate something. Thanks..................carol |

Re: Introduction: Carol Stiff
Thanks much. Very interesting site. KCET has been looking for a map and the one you are using is perfect. Also like your merchandise section. What are "banana bucks"? Is anyone selling tissue cultured bananas that are hardy for the northern climates?
Looking forward to reviewing more of your site later. I think my hobbyists will be most interested in this..................carol |

Re: Introduction: Carol Stiff
Thanks for the kind words!
BananaBucks are just a fun thing we recently introduced to encourage participation and be rewarded for it. They are like monopoly-money really, but can be used to enhance the look and feel of your posts and your profile, check out the BananaBucks Shop for the current list: http://www.bananas.org/vbplaza.php We will be making banana plants available soon as well for those who want to trade their earned BB$ for real live banana plants! BananaBucks caused some confusion, concern, and controversy when we first introduced them but I think it will grow to be a fun thing. The rather large thread about BananaBucks is here: BananaBucks There aren't a lot of people selling tissue cultured bananas here at this time but feel free to get your kits out there, teach us how, and help change that!

Re: Introduction: Carol Stiff
Carol, Fantastic to see you made it here! I imagine that you will want to start a thread for TC kits to simplify locating it. When enough people reply to the thread, Jarred (Mediahound) will make it a "sticky" thread that remains on the first page.
Congratulations and welcome aboard!!! |

Re: Introduction: Carol Stiff
Welcome Carol!
Glad you joined. There are a lot of people here that have shown interest in TC at home, so this is right up your alley. Keith Benson has been a member here for a while now, though I have seen very few post from him lately. I, myself, have been a member here for only a couple of years. I've been a member of hometissueculture groups for 4 or 5 years, maybe more. John Gavino |
