![]() I am new into bananas. Moved into a new house in NW Houston. I have grown gingers for years & was able to bring some along. Craeting new beds (if anybody isn't doing anything....) and want to incorporate some bananas (mostly dwarf) into the new landscaping. I have good lighting (sun for about 2/3 of the day with good protection from north winds. I plan on planting several species of Heliconia, Hedychiums, philodendron & bananas. Any good suggestions on what bananas to plant. I would prefer dwarf w/ maybe a medium size (10' - 15') specimen plant.

![]() First off, welcome to the site! I know you'll get plenty of answers to your banana-related questions. The people are super nice and very helpful.
As far as your question....I would think any of the dwarf varieties would work well. However, most get 6-8 feet....if you're looking for 10-15 feet you might consider some full-sized plants. Dwarf ideas: -Dwarf Red -Dwarf Cavendish -Dwarf Brazilian -Dwarf Orinoco -Musa 'Rowe Red' (similar to a 'blood' banana (sumatrana 'zebrina')) -Super Mini Dwarf Cavendish (for patio or something even) Larger varieties: -Ice Cream (blue Java) -Musa Manzano (Apple Banana) Just a few ideas! Enjoy the site and enjoy growing your bananas! ![]()
