Hi Guys
I'm a newbie Banana grower living in Mackay Queensland Aus. Having zero knowledge about bananas other than eating them, I thought I'd join the group to try and get a better handle on growing these things.
I have a few Cavendish plants growing at the moment which were all planted about 6 months ago (no fruit yet).
Three are planted on a block of land close to the coast that aren't doing so well with the leaves yellowing and brownish trunk. The other one planted at my house that's doing great.
My house soil is sandy, the land has similar soil makeup but was originally coastal rain forest type country so is really rich. It does dry out fairly quickly though.
I have fertilised all of them with a mixture of slow release pellets and blood and bone.

Any thoughts would be helpful

welcome to the community.

get you a cheap butt meter; does light, ph and moisture.

the reason for this is, sandy soil can sometimes have a very high ph [to well draining] which some nanners do not grow well in. i have sandy soil and my meter almost pegs out in acidity. for me cavendish will not grow at all and neither will any species that have the cavendish strain, gran nain to name one. from what i have seen here in my yard.

but there are some nanners, for me, that do not care. i have read that generally 5.5 ph for nanners is about right.
