Howdy
Guess I've been a long time lurker here but never managed to post anything. Sorry about that. I moved just before this site was started and stopped growing as many bananas and being involved in the previous (now defunct) banana sites. I also jumped ship from GardenWeb to Dave's Garden in 2003, so missed the initial migration here, as well. With the takeover of DG last spring, I've started looking up all of the other sites I sometimes frequent for information in anticipation of my lapsing subscription to that site--Tomatoville for tomatoes, THML for new hibiscus, bananas.org for, well, bananas, etc.
Being in a colder place now than before, I have M. basjoo all over and Musella lasiocarpa, of course, though I have a set of others like Siam Ruby, too. Ensetes, for quick dramatic presence. Maybe an orinoco and a velutina. And the dwarfs. Okay, I guess I have a lot of different bananas still. I started up my nursery again in my new location and mostly sell heirloom tomatoes and the like, but will probably start offering propagations from many of my subtropicals (bananas, brugs, hibiscus, waterlilies, elephant ears, etc.) next year. Anyway, thanks for being a great resource, and I'll try to poke my head into a few threads. Maybe I'll have something to say about my last twelve years of growing bananas, or maybe I'll just ask questions. |

Re: Howdy
Hello psa and welcome. I've already learned some things from you (hibiscus and tomato websites!) and also inspired me to look for some other sites I could enjoy. I know also that I'd enjoy seeing some pics of your endeavors, Thanks

Re: Howdy
Hi psa, glad to have you on board. Stranded sailors welcome.
All who jump ship are received with open arms, heh. Hope to hear about all the stories of yours from over the years, and maybe if you have some old pics laying around from back then you can scan them and add them to your photo gallery here. Again, welcome aboard, great to have you.

Re: Howdy
Hello and welcome! I have 2 Ensetes too [red Absynnians]. I thought I was ordering Zebrina but got those instead. Not unhappy! They grow great! And I still have 2 Zebrinas on the way! I'm in zone 7 too so I'll be watching for your posts!

Re: Howdy
Thanks, everyone.
Ensetes are fun because they're so fast growing and tolerant, but they don't pup so you can't get a natural stand of them. Still, they make great annuals. I've been playing around with them from tissue culture plugs (cheap and easy that way) though I've heard you can start them from seed. |
