I am looking forward to growing some bananas. There is a great deal of experience that I am and will be taking in from you all on Bananas.Org. Thanks.

Any help to choose the right banana plant for NSW ( I live between Sydney and Canberra). I have Pisang Ceylang or Cavandish to choose from from Bunnings in ACT. I am leaning towards Pisang Ceylang because of reading that it is a very cold and wind tolerant variety. I can't find any information to how disease resistant it is though!
I live in a cool temperate area. Is the Pisang Ceylang a Monkey Finger?

Welcome ! For finding out what varieties grow in the Southern NSW you could contact the DPI office at WOOLLONBAR 02 66261200, where they do research on Bananas Its just outside of Lismore on the North Coast.A long way from the Canberra region but they know something about what types grow in your area and maybe, where to obtain them.

Thanks for all the welcomes.
Since my family had planned to go to Sydney for the 20 20 at the Olimpic Stadium I thought I'd stop in at a nearby nursery (Enfield Flowerpower) and buy a Pisang Ceylon Banana plant there. To my delight the banana plants were on a 20% off sale so I was able to get another fruit plant also. I could have easily stayed much longer at that lovely nursery but was in a little rush. The P.C. banana plant I bought has pups so I am at the moment deciding what type of pups they are (water, maiden or sword), and whether I should cut them off or not before I plant the banana tree.
Any advice?
