Joy Hi. Im sylvia from Arkansas z 7b

I have read post and learned alot over the years. Finally joined so i can learn more. I have grown banana plants for years as ornamntals. Now i want to grow them for the fruit. Any help is appreciated and welcome.
I have to bring my bananas in for the winter if i want to get fruit. So my big question is. Can i plant them in the ground and then in fall dig them and put them in pots and get fruit. Or should i just leave them potted? I want them in the ground because they grow bigger faster. And i tend to over baby them in pots. I live is southwest Missouri (6b) and I planted out some banana plants and dug them up for the winter, they did stop growing, I think I should have cut off the top and let it grow out again. One thing I did was lay them on the side which probably didn't help with the fact that they stoped growing, I am planning to have around 15 or so planted outside this year.
All that being said I think it would be possible to dig it up and it would keep growing, I'll be trying it this year again and hopefully have better luck!
I had one fruiting and also layed it sideways and it finished the fruit.

You're pretty close to me. I'm in Hampton. Small town few hours south of little rock.

What do you do with all the varieties you have in the winter?

To answer your question, it's no trouble digging them up and then replanting them.

I just have one blue java aside from the pups it puts out.

I like to put it in a large pot in my bathroom over the winter with a really nice grow light over it.

If you ever get fruit and it's good, id probably drive there to buy some if you have plenty.

If you ever take interest in figs, let me know. I know one of the best places in the country to get them.

I have a closed in garage with grow lights. This will be my first winter with this many varieties. Never tried to get bananas before. Going to this year. I have 2 small fig trees. No figs yet. And if I do get plenty of fruit, I would share.
Good luck growing.

That's cool. I was wondering how you'd store so many.

Do you leave any outside? I just ordered Mekong giant and was cureous if it would die to the ground in winter.

I have a row of ten figs going down my driveway that are just starting to produce fruit for the first time.

I have Mekong, basjoo, dwarf orinoco and an unknown dwarf that I have had for about 8 years. I dont dig those. They die down and come back every year in my zone. I dont have room for that many figs. One of my figs produced a fee figs for the first time this year and i got a tiger stripe fig last month. Hope it does good. Im really hoping to get bananas on at least a couple of my bananas this next summer.

I'm hoping my blue java fruits this year or next. And I'm hoping it is blue java as much as I've taken care of it. Lol. I got it from fast growing trees and someone in the reviews said theirs ended up being Saba.
