Hi every body,
We moved in California in 2007 from France and are lucky to have a nice garden. As we've always lived around paris or in the north east of France, we don't know much about California's vegetal life. We're not doing too bad though, but want to learn a little more and then share.
have a good one, stef |

Re: Hi every body,
Thanks. Well in Paris, in our small appartment, nothing much ... tomatoes hanging outside the windows, jasmin ...
But where i grew up for a while and still have a house ... a lot of different plants : trees : cherries, apples, pears, peaches, prunes ... kitchen garden : a bunch of cucurbitacea, potatoes, tomatoes, corn, salads, and many others that i couldn't even name in english. In the fields : corn, wheat, barley, lucerne ... and my father was studing rare old species of apples in the area But I don't know much myself about growing plants, having lived in big cities for a while now, without a garden. |

Re: Hi every body,
Thanks Stef, I studied old heirloom apple varieties years ago like your father. Very interesting subject. There's plenty of good growers here so I'm sure you'll get help with whatever you're looking for.

Re: Hi every body,
Welcome! Your family in France didn't grow any chestnuts? I am growing a French cultivar, Bouche de Betizac, along with others from Italy, etc.

Re: Hi every body,
Hi Xenjee, Paris is wonderful (and tiresome to see in one day ) and it's about the same climate (or little bit worse than my own, so I know what you mean by peaches, prunes... )
California is perfect for growing nanas, in general it's one of those 2 super ideal spots (along with Florida) and maybe some parts of Texas. I think that the nanas are perfect landscaping choice along with citruses and other subtropical fruit. But why did you leave Paris? It's so diverse, the cradle of may historical events, ... And a wonderful place to be in. Dunno, I spent there only a few days, but it came to me as a wonderful place to live (only very few cities in Western Europe were to my liking! ).
