Hi all

This is a great forum. I found it by linking from Pa Cold Hardy Palms. I am in zone 6 Bucks County, PA. Have grown several Tropicals, including Bananas for a few years, but only in pots. They are getting vey large, the bananas and the pots and becoming too difficult to bring inside during the winter. My wife is unbelievably understanding but things need to change. This will be my first year to plant bananas and palms permanently, I hope, outside and try to overwinter using the information I have gathered from this link and a few others. Any input or suggestions are welcome and if you are from my area, Richboro or Churchville, please let me know what you have found works for you. I look forward to being a part of this forum.

Welcome Bill,
We've all most certainly have gone bananas here, and many of us share the same concerns that you have written about. Keep reading and researching on the site, and iam sure you will find the answer.

If there is a specific question you have regarding bananas; post the question.
Someone will help!

As far as leaving your nannas outside to overwinter, it depends on what type of bananas you have and what resources are available to you to overwinter the plant!

You can always cut the banana down to almost the corm, instead of dragging it inside every fall. Or cut it down to the corm and take it out the pot of dirt and place it in an empty dog food bag for the winter.

Or cut it back to say ummm.......3 or 4 ft in Sept. It will grow more leaves, but it will be shorter and more manageable.

If iam wrong about this, iam sure someone will come by and read this and correct me. Hope this helps........Magicgreen:)
