Default Hi

I was drawn to your site by Musa 'Siam Ruby'. I live in California in the central valley, zone 9 and better. I am a obsessed gardener and live in Paradise. We have 20 acres on the Kings River with 1/2 mile river frontage, a 3 acre lake and a trout stream just outside our door. (We are not fishermen! or hunters!) A few years ago I started out to landscape a little portion of our land. About 3 acres. Yes I am very Crazy----especially as I am NOT a spring chicken any more----by a long shot.

Long story short. I am now doing a small tropical garden in-between buildings. I am really having a ball. All that color I can use. It is a little late in the season to be starting but there is a whole lot of dirt and DG to be moved. I have before (ugly) pictures and sitting around waiting to be planted; four Queen palms, 4 bananas, two giant Bird of Paradise and a very long wish list!

I joined to get suggestions for GOOD books on Bananas. And to meet some kindred souls.

Thanks for letting me join

Val

Welcome Val, we have a few things in common. Your gardening plans sounds wonderful with lots or room to expand. Twenty acres can make a very lush and private paradise. Little by little you will see all kinds of accomplishment, starting out with the soil is the hardest part. I wish you the best on all your projects.

Welcome, VAL!!!
This place is a GREAT place for info and simple sharing of info. I, like yourself, am fairly new to the tropical world. I, UNLIKE yourself, do not have to climate you do for these babies, but hey, it makes it more of a challenge where I live. I know if I can have a tropical looking back yard, you will have no trouble. I live in SE TN and still get the feeling every summer that I am in my own little piece of paradise! Good luck with your upcoming project(s) and stay tuned. All information, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, is shared here, because you never know who you may help out in the process.
Randy
