Welcome to the Org. My understanding is that it will not flower and fruit again, but by cutting it back you will encourage it to pup and the new pups will flower and fruit.

Welcome aboard, Bahamabananaman ! That's a mouthfull! Bananas will only flower & fruit once but... who knows! Miracle Gro for fruit trees is supposed to work great... but I've been hearing some bad things about Miracle Gro so ya might wanna check around here with other members. Lots of friendly members here & tons of info too! If ya have any questions about using the forum, just ask.
Have Fun!

Hey Bahamabananaman,
I find that if a plant doesn't flower, then it's lacking something, is usually really small at the base and doesn't have many suckers, or something has chewed on and screwed up the leaf as it is trying to grow up. So far I've had two that jammed and won't grow any more leaves, so I just use the machete and lob it off until I see no more black in the heart of the stem and it will start growing again. The ones that just don't seem to get up there (after two years), I just pull out and chop them up for fertilizer. We have a large white grub looking worm that munches on their roots, and they will irreversibly damage a plant before you know what's going on, so I just chuck those, too. I use a powder called Hermitox (in Panama) that I mix with water and pour around the base to keep those ugly suckers at bay. Sometimes it works.

I fertilized mine this year with 12-12-12 granulated sprinkled around the base keeping it about 2 feet away from the plant, and also urea. This is the combination that most folks around here use, and seems to be making the plants happy.

I've been really busy while building a house and taking care of bananas, I haven't taken any pictures yet and found out what kind of bananas I have. I have to do that. We eat them anyway, even though we don't know their names. Basically have two kinds of plantains (short and fat, and long and kinda fat), and a banana called patriotas, and a couple of apple bananas.

Good luck with your Bahamabananamanfarm

This sounds like a good regimen, how much 12-12-12 and urea do you use per plant?

And welcome BBF, nice to see a fellow Bahamian I live on Grand Bahama
