If you have room and light to make it a houseplant, that would be my suggestion.

I do not have much experience with the colder winters you experience.

I live in No. Illinois and my husband and I had bananas in the house last winter. We brought our naners inside to our three season room and we made sure they had light and heated the room enough with heaters that it stayed around forty degrees on the zero degree days. We also kept trays of water in the room to provide for humidity. But we only watered the naners sparingly throughout the winter, and not the kind of watering we would give in the summer (drinch it until it ran out the bottom). I hope this helps.
