Help :(

i have a musa acuminate banana plant with wilting leaves :( :( :( i live in ontario canada near toronto and it is winter here. my plant was purchased from a local nursery and was in good shape when i bought it, however after 2-3 weeks it has begun to wilt. i do not know what i am doing wrong, it gets full sun, and i have followed the care instructions, i even mist the leaves with warm water. i am on the 18th floor of an apartment building and have a south facing window.

Hello & Welcome.. Winter is a time where banana's don't looks so pretty for the most part, the key is to get it thru winter alive. :^)

Re: Help :(

so the leaves starting to turn brown are from lack of sunlight? and are a normal occurrence during the winter months?

Welcome to the Jungle !! :woohoonaner:

Have fun here.

It is very normal for the plant to decline once it leaves the store or green house and goes into your home, leaves turn brown, yellow and the plant just looks horrible. And it just takes a few weeks to rear its ugly face.
Cut way back on water because the first thing a person does is start watering the plant once it looks bad and that leads to more problems including death to your plant. I also suspect that the windows in your high-rise are energy efficient and Low E so they might not be getting as much light as you hoped they would.
Here is a photo of leaves that come off my plants on a weekly basis; for me this is expected.
However I can see your concern with your new plant.

WOW! your leaves look enormous!

that sounds like solid advice, i will let my plant fully dry until i water again, the winter months here arnt very bright, but i am going to try my hardest to keep her alive and well. thank you for the advice and a new goal to thrive for; leaves as big as yours! :exercise:

Without a pic I'd say you probably need to treat for Spidermites.. This is an reoccurring indoor problem so a monthly or biweekly process.. :^)

Your plant looks better than some of my plants; keep in mind that your plant will probably look even worse in the coming weeks and if you have a balcony put it outside on warm days.

Good luck.

It's rare for it to be above 0Celsius. What temperature can I put it out at?

18 Celsius or above is safe.

I would not be worried by the looks of this plant. It even has a new leave coming up, so all seems fine to me.

Yes, that other leaf sprouted a couple of days ago, I have the four day growth stages uploaded on my profile.
