![]() Hey Folks...been lurking for a while until I finally decided to take the plunge.
Great information on this board. I'm a newbie and currently have two varieties newly planted in my backyard (Rajapuri and Blue Java). My head is swimming trying to figure out what variety to try next. I can see how this hobby can quickly get outta control. I'm thinking either dwarf namwah or dwarf brazilian. Anybody have strong feelings for one or the other? Craig |

![]() Man, you guys are all enablers (in a good way, of course).
@Rob - Nice little farm you've got there. We go to the Big Island frequently and drive through your neck of the woods. Wife loves the tidepools near Kapoho. @Michael - Thanks!...seems like that just might happen with Mitchels help. @Mitchel - Hello, to you, too, neighbor! I'll take you up on that offer for both if it's not too much trouble. I'd offer you a Rajapuri pup in exchange, but it appears you don't need one. Thanks for the warm welcomes! |

![]() Thanks Jerico! Quite a stable of bananas you have there. I still have a hard time believing how many varieties people on this board grow.

![]() Thanks, but we are testing to see which can survive here,
especially with our assistance to weather protect them. When we started with our bananas, we didn't know anything about Bananas.org. We were merely stabbing in the dark. We have already learned a whole bunch from being here, and have a whole lot more to learn. However, we definitely enjoy the tropical appearance of them growing in the yard. We already have overwintered our huge mystery banana. That type is in bloom, but we are not positive the fruit will make it to maturity. We are trying!!! Hopefully, we can establish a possible marketable line of bananas to offer along with our other nursery plants. We will also be able to provide customers with valuable experience of having actually raised them here in this area. We wish you all the best in your efforts. Make sure to dig into this forum for the wealth of knowledge you too will gain... ![]()

![]() Welcome Craig from wet and warm central Florida, we got started for bananas as fodder for our cattle but caught the bug. Now have over 15 varieties and are deciding on which ones to continue with. There are four plants with bananas on them now and they will be for sure keepers. Praying hands gotten from Stan a nearby friend, Manzano, a tissue cultrure, Drawf Brazilian, and a Drawf Orinoco (I believe). This year the rains were very generous and the plants all loved it and prospered. We have what was sold to us as Ice Cream but don't know for sure yet. So far the D. Brazilian and the Manzano are the favorites with the Praying Hands running in there with them.
Good growing and stay healthy. |

![]() Welcome and good luck with your new plants. I got my first banana plant in the spring and am now growing eight different varieties. My wife says I can't stop buying new plants. She may be right.

![]() @Andreas - nice pics on photobucket. I'm hoping my Raja Puri produces for me soon. Nice pics of your Ice Cream as well. I just picked up one of these from someone who I later found out was a board member here.
@Noah - Good info...Mitchel is graciously hooking me up with Dwarf Brazilian and Namwah. I hope to have something close to your success. So...how much do your cows like those bananas? @Brian - I think my wife would get along well with yours. I'm currently at 2, but will likely be at 4 varieties after I see Mitchel tomorrow. I don't think I'll have much more room for anything else after that. |

![]() So, after a trip to see Mitchel this afternoon, I'm now the owner of two more varieties (Dwarf Brazilian and Namwah). Big thanks to Mitchel for graciously digging two pups up for me and giving me the tour of his urban farm. It becomes readily apparent how little I know when talking to someone like Mitchel.
I'll post some pics once I get things situated. Thanks again, Mitchel! |
