Appreciate the welcome. Very kind of you in this busy world. I grow two, the Basjoo and Sikkimensis or Bengal Tiger. Looking forward to learning from you all.

Re: Hello from south Alabama
There are a group of us between Biloxi and Pensacola. Glad you joined up.
Are you on the Eastern shore or West side? Are you looking for ornamentals or edibles or both?

Re: Hello from south Alabama
I'm located at about the 176 mile marker on I-65, just north of Montgomery. Lived and trained Guard Dogs in Pensacola years ago. Lived just off Creighton Road. Going to try both but getting a late start this year and just got my plants in the ground a few weeks ago. My first time around the bloc in growing Bananas so will be asking many questions I'm sure. lol

Re: Hello from south Alabama
You are a good bit North of us. Enough so that it will limit what you can grow. Most of what we grow would be difficult where you grow unless you dig them every falll and store them under the house or in the basement.

Re: Hello from south Alabama
Hey Rebel!
We must personalize this greeting. We are over around Greensboro. We just joined also. If you look to the left in our profile, you can see what we are growing. Hopefully, they will be okay in this zone. You are also in our zone, so they should be okay for you to. Happy Bananas 2 ya! Edit Note: The list didn't show up, but I will post our list shortly in our signature below.

Re: Hello from south Alabama
Jerico.,,,,,great seeing another Alabama Banana grower. I'm new to the sport.lol Saw you were with a trucking company that closed. Who was that ? I'm with Evergreen Transport and Terminal Mgr. for our terminal in Jackson, Al. where we run 39ft. hydraulic dump trailers.
Again good to have ya here and as far as growing in zone 8 I'm taking advise from my neighbor who has Bananas growing now. He has an E. Maurelli that has got to be 20 ft. tall. At the first light frost each year he cuts all leaves off and cuts the top off and then wraps plant with plastic. The translucent type that painters use for a drop cloth. Not the clear or black as he said these two on a warm Summer day will burn the plant. He's doing something right. Have never seen any Bananas this large in my area. Good luck and glad to have ya here. |
