Hi I'm new and I've got some interest in Bananas. First off I'm a hobbyist Mycologist, meaning I grow my own mushrooms to eat. Lions mane, Oysters and ****ake.
I do all my own sterile cultures and such. So when my friend tells me I can do tissue culturing of bananas I got interested and have been reading up on it for a couple days now. Just trying to let it all sink in. I'm interested in learning about bananas and to grow some that are NOT like the store bought ones. I also have thought maybe growing some to sell. Maybe try my hand as TC. It's basically the same as TC for mushrooms, but with different chemical stimulants and you have to acclimatize them in order to make it outdoors. Anyway that's my story and I'm sticking too it. I've also wondered about TCing other plants and trying to do something to help the less fortunate with some sort of food plant. I saw a thread on Tcing a pineapple. Pretty interesting. anyway howdy from SD. Larry |

Welcome! There are plenty of varieties that do well in your area that are far superior in quality to store-bought ones. Check out Dwarf Namwah, Mysore, Ice Cream, Manzano, Dwarf Brazilian, Goldfinger, and Yangambi KM5. There are also many members in your area with extensive banana collections.

Happy growing from another banana plant enthusiast, also in beautiful San Diego.
Growing your own mushrooms sounds awesome. I need to try that one day. |

When you said "howdy from SD", I thought you meant South Dakota, but then I looked you up on the map and you meant San Diego. Some Difference, huh? Anyway, I wanted to give you a welcome. Keep us updated on your TC efforts.

There are several members who live down your way that have nice collections of bananas. Sunfish and Pitangadiego will have most anything you want and both sell pups.
Welcome to the board! |
