Hello from Port Charlotte Florida
Hello and thank you for adding me to the site. My name is Bob and I live in Port Charlotte Florida which is 100 miles south of Tampa.
I am having a lot of fun growing bananas. We received 4 banana plants from some neighbors In two large planters several years ago when they moved. We knew nothing about bananas. We left them in the pots for a few months then transplanted them in our garden. Very little happened for a long time. My wife decided to fertilize them a couple of times and sure enough they responded. Our very first stalk of bananas was such a treat. In the past three years our bananas have been transplanted all over our yard via pups. They are all dwarf Cavendish. I learned about feeding them since our ground is very poor, but does drain well. The Cavendish are reliable producers and we get 5-6 flowers every year with decent yields. About a year and a half ago I branched out and picked up a Blue Java. That now has bananas on it along with several very large pups. I have since been on a diversity hunt. I now have some different varieties that I look forward to seeing what they do, as well as learning about them from anyone who has experience with them. Cavendish Orinoco Gros Micheal Blue Java Dwarf Blue Java Hua Moa Nam Wah Apple Unknown (neighbor gave it to me smuggled from Thailand supposedly) Unknown (sister gave it to me) Unknown (bought from a Craigslist ad) I am always looking to find out more information and always trying to learn. Thanks, Bob |
