Hi guys,
My name is Zach and I'm a guy who used to love to garden as a teenager but gave it up for years. Just got back into late this summer and shortly after the rebirth of this desire, came this immense love for banana plants!! The hardy ones especially what I'm given to being that I'm in zone 8a. I'm totally over my head but learning a lot from GW and here. Currently, I have two Basjoos (sent to me bareroot a couple weeks ago and iffy), two Orinocos, (starting to put out more leaves), and two beccariis I just got from a Top Foods/Haggens at $4.99 each. I couldn't resist that. The obvious, well, is that it's Sept 6th and what am I doing getting these bananas now???? Well, good question. They are growing a little as we have a little more nice weather. I'm getting a portable greenhouse that will stay above freezing in the winter so I'm gonna have them there. Then in spring, I will let them hopefully take off to higher proportions. It seldom freezes here where I live but the wetness and rot is I know what would get them. Anyway, it's a project and maybe It'll be a disaster but I'm having fun! Good to meet all of you! Zach |

Hello Zach, and welcome to this site.
I, too, am from the PNW, Portland area actually. I just have two banana's at this time, with some moderate success. Once the camera is locatd, I will post some updated pictures in my gallery. Anyway, as said welcome. The people that are on this site are amazing with their knowledge and assistance. Good luck to you. Mike |
