Hello From Ohio!

Hello,
I'm from Dayton, OH. I have just received a new Basjoo plant from a friend who's brother has about 30 of them.

I'ts a little worse for wear, with brown and green leaves and it's about 2 feet high.

I repotted it into a bigger pot with spaghum, perlite, and miracle grow soil.

I just don't know what to do with the brown leaves and how much to water it.

I'm looking forward to this forum to help me grow my plant to 6 feet!

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Michele

Hi Michele,

If the any leaves are totally brown they can be cut off. I presume the plant is inside since Ohio in the winter is just like NJ. Be careful not to overwater it, that is most important. Let the topsoil get dry before watering. Not sure what size pot you put it in, but in the spring you can put it outside either in the ground, or in the largest pot you can get (in retrospect all of my bananas would have benefited from much larger pots) and watch it grow. If it is 2 feet now, there's a chance it will get a lot bigger than 6 feet, and will likely have many pups. My 3 Basjoos all had at least 10 pups each their first year.

Welcome, and good luck!

~Joe
