Hello from The Netherlands
Hello I'm Robin and I'm new here. After lurking for a while I've desided to join this nice forum as my love for plants and especially Banana plants has grown significantly in the last year. I've learned here alot already thanks to you lot on this forum. Last year I bought a Dwarf Cavendish in the middle of winter to keep indoors and it did nothing untill late march. I kept it dry untill first growth appeared. A month later I repotted and added dried cow manure pellets to stimulate growth. It worked and still workes wonderfully. However since then I also have a pest of Fungus Gnats for like 4 months now wich are hard to get rid off, but the plant and it's pups don't seem to be affected by them at all and look healthy. I've also noticed the soil contains mites witch could be beneficial as they kill the Fungus Gnats larvae correct? I've made a short video of it and I was hoping someone could determine if these are indeed the predatory type of mites I'm hoping they are. Re: Hello from The Netherlands
The fungus gnats larvae will feed on & damage plant roots. The larvae needs damp/wet soil, which suggest you are over watering the potted plants (root rot).
Use Flying Insect spray to control the adult gnat. See https://www.planetnatural.com/pest-p...-gnat-control/ for control of the gnat larvae. |

Re: Hello from The Netherlands
Testing to submit photo in thread.
Ok that works like a charm. Does anyone know what causes the yellow/brownish striped edges on the leaves of my DC? Dry air maybe? I'm spraying max 2-3 times a week because it gives an ugly white gaze over the leaves. The water here is high in calcium and magnesium. Last edited by momratzn : 08-28-2017 at 06:47 PM. |

Re: Hello from The Netherlands
Thx. I repotted in may or something and it already grew out of it... These buggers grow too darn fast lol. I'm gonna wait till spring next year as it will probably halt it's growing in winter season. Or would it be wise to do it before autumn/winter is coming?

Re: Hello from The Netherlands
If it were me, I would repot now. Those roots are very mature and are compact enough to not be bothered by transplanting. Just leave the soil as is and don't remove any soil. Whatever type soil your using don't change anything. It is obviously perfect. Good luck.

Re: Hello from The Netherlands
Allright man that's great to hear . I'll be going on the search for a biig pot than. I'm just using standard potting soil for indoors not mixed with anything and I added cow manure pellets.
