Default Hello from NC

Hello to all. My name is Red and I am located just outside of Charlotte NC. in a now zone 8 which was a zone 7b before they updated the zones. I have only two banana plants, a Basjoo and possibly a Zebrina (I have a question out on this site to help identify it) that I am trying to grow with little luck. My Basjoo has only topped out at 30” by end of summer and I’m trying to find out what I’m doing wrong. I will find my answers here on this site. Thank you and I hope to learn a ton of info from you all. Red

Its great to see someone else from NC. Don't give up, you can grow and maybe get fruit out of your bananas in NC. I have ice cream plants that are 7 feet tall now. Just keep looking at the information on the forum.

Charlotte is pretty close to the Tenn. border. I would call it more of a 7 zone, wouldn't you say? I mean, temperature do drop quite low over there for tropical plants!

I live in zone 8, close to Wilmington, N.C. Welcome you will find this forum very useful with lots of nice people.

hello and welcome. it could be where you have them planted or it could be the ground it is in. im new to nanas this is my first yr growing them. or it could be a lack of sun. im sure there are others here who might have a different opinion. welcome again!

It's not that close! Besides, there is a large mountain chain between us that keeps most of the cold air on our side. Charlotte is definitely a zone 8a. You should see some pics of the 20+ feet tall Trachycarpus there!

That is a very nice area. I grew up in Gastonia. Not so nice, but last time I went through there it was getting better.
