Hello from Monroe,LA zone 8

I have only visited and want to give thank yous for this forum.
I only have Musa Basajoos (as they are very easy to grow here) and Red Ensetes.
I cut and thin my Basajoos after first frost and they come back each year with a vengence. I remove dig and wrap my Ensete stem (removing leaves); store them in my storage building for winter and set them back out in spring.
I want to attempt to grow Ice Cream.

John that is exciting. I live in zone 7 (near Philadelphia). I have some pics of my ice cream banana plant posted that flowered and produced bananas last year in September (They didn't survive because I am thinking I should have moved the plant inside shortly after the bananas stopped appearing). I have had this type of plant for 3 years now and each year it puts up 2 or 3 pups. I keep the plant in a pot and move it outside in the spring when night temps are above 55 and then back inside my foyer in the fall when night temps drop to the mid 50's. It looks as though my plant could put up a flower by the end of the summer but I am hoping it doesn't until next spring. When the plant is inside it will continue to put up leaves but at a slower rate.

If I can do it you can do it too! Don't let anyone tell you that you can't grow an ice cream banana plant in zone 8....it will take some work but if I can do it in zone 7 then you can do it in zone 8. I should be giving these pups away as I don't know what I will do with all of these plants when it gets cold outside!

I'm southwest of you on lake Toledo Bend. I get fruit from several every year. You should be able to also. Orinoco for sure. I actually have a real deal blue java ice cream flowering right now! Haha.

Beware 90% of blue javas ice cream bananas sold are actually Musa tall namwa. They are good also. It just depends what you want.
