Default Hello from Las Vegas

Good evening,

I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. I am brand new to growing any sort of tree so I will selfishly be absorbing information and not passing anything on in return until I learn a lot more about this new venture. I have gotten tired of paying landscapers to replace queen palms in my rear yard landscape. I want to be more involved in my landscaping and I think a couple banana trees 9plants??) would be a nice addition. I am not sure what kind to get or where to get them. ALong with figuring that out I need to determine what I have to do to prepare the planting site for them. Wish me luck and I am open to any insight from my fellow Las Vegas growers.

Thanks!!

Bill

Good luck! I think in LV, the biggest concern would be that they get sufficient water. As hot as you guys get sometimes, moisture loss through natural respiration would be pretty rapid.

Welcome to the fourm. In your climate the best thing you can do for your banana plants is water and then when your finished watering in the morning, water again! They love full sun, and they can handle some minor droughts when established, but they do best when its hot and moist.
Good luck!
