Default Hello from Indiana!

Hi my name is Jason and I live in the central part of Indiana (USA). I have been playing around with banana plants for the last couple of years. I started off with them as plants in my water garden but soon realized they would have to be brought inside during the winter to survive so now they are all potted and come in to my basement grow-area along with my orchids, elephant ears, various other house plants and lime tree. I have Dwarf Cavendish, Musa 'Truly Tiny', Musa "Basjoo' and would like to add a Musa 'Siam Ruby' if I can find one, but I already have a pretty tight fit on the plant benches for winter, but if one happened along, I am sure it could be worked in there. Thanks all!
~Jason

If it helps, you could probably put the Basjoo in the ground if you mulch it well.
Welcome to the banana nut club...

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.

Hi Jason-

Welcome aboard the Banana Express.

If you want to put your basjoo into the ground in your location, bury the corm about 5" down and it should winter over fine. Follow instructions on other threads for info on wintering it over.

I like your state. It has a great diversity of climates. Most people have no idea that there are at least two ski resorts in the middle of the Corn Belt.
