Hello I'm new
Hello, I just registered today after finding you on Google search. My wife and I live in Louisville, TN. We bought a home there in March of 08, and we are looking to "liven" up our pool area this year with hardy bananas. I am originally from New Hampshire, but my wife is native TN. I have an AAS degree in horticulture from UNH (1983). My career is in financial services though. I don't feel alive unless I can get my hands in the dirt still. There are so many more things we can grow here, it is overwhelming to me sometimes. I look forward to learning more about the intriguing genus Musa.

Re: Hello I'm new
Tog Tan: KL ! - Was there in 2002 Menara, Petronas Towers, etc. We did a "side trip" while visiting friends in Singapore. Malacca too. Such an incredibly beautiful part of this world. Will never forget that trip.
Ueberwinden - oh, Louisville, TN is right next to Knoxville (home of Big Dog) except for some strange reason they pronounce the "s" in the name. -S |

Re: Hello I'm new
Welcome Steve! I am a relative newbie here as well. I will tell you that I have learned more about bananas in the last few days than I ever thought I would need to know. And I've been around a while! Just about every question you could ask can be answered in here somewhere. And if you can't find it, just ask. A very friendly place.

Re: Hello I'm new
Steve,
I understand, up here it is pronounced like Looa-ville. Hillbilly I guess. TYS is one of my most favorite quick trips, absolutely love G'burg and pigeon Forge, The mountains, not the strips (tourist traps). Hope to hear more from you, please post some pictures if you can, would love to see what your growing. Michael |

Re: Hello I'm new
Welcome, Steve! The first time I heard somebody pronounce that town, I was sure it was spelled "Lewisville," lol. Then I went through it one afternoon (I didn't blink, or I'd have missed it!) and saw the sign "Louisville." The guy I was riding with pronounced it, and the light bulb finally went off in my head, lol. Maryville="Murvul," Knoxville="Noxvul," and my personal favorite...Shelbyville="Shebvul." Oh, and Woodbury="Wudbur." Murfreesboro="Murfisburrah," and Smyrna="Sahmurnah." I could go on...
I lived in Shelburne, VT from 1976-1980. Beautiful area, and seemed like there was always snow on the ground in the winter. Lived up in St. John, NB, Canada also. It didn't just seem like there was always snow on the ground there...there was! :ha: Shoot me an email sometime. |
