Default Hello and HELP!!

Hello All! I found your website while doing an internet search on helping a sick banana plant. I am hoping someone will be able to provide me with some insight on what is going on. This is my first, and only banana plant. I got it last May. Grew outside in a pot all year. (Actually had to transfer it to a bigger pot as it grew!) In late September I brought the pot in the house. I nervously chopped the plant down to 3 inches or so. To my delight, it was already growing back the next day. I managed to keep it alive allll winter long by spritzing it with a spray bottle almost daily and giving it a small cup of water every other week or so. It has continued to grow and do great. For whatever reason, I gave it some extra water a week or two ago, thinking it needed it in preparation to be moved back outside... (don't ask?). Since then it has started to droop and the leaves are turning yellow. I had poured the water directly on the plant, and notice that it seems to still be wet. I removed the brown crinkling stuff around the stalk and it looks like it might have root rot?? However, I have a little pup there and it seem to be still growing. Sooo, can it be saved?? Should I take the pup out and put it in a new pot? Should I cut the stalk down again? I hope this isn't the end of this plant!! I can't believe I made it this far only to have it die on me!! :-( Any help or suggestions you can provide would be so helpful. I have attached pics so you can see what it looks like. Thank you in advance!

It does not look too bad to me but I would hold off with watering. Where are you located? Are you planning on planting it outside?

Hello & Welcome.. How much light does it get in the purple corner? Pup isn't close to size to be removed. :^)

It gets mostly afternoon light there. Unfortunately, it is the best place in the house to get light. And really, it did great all winter. It wasn't until this last week that it started looking bad. Possibly b/c of my overwatering. Also, I had the windows open in there last week and we had some pretty cool nights. I'm worried that might have had an effect also.

The soil looks fresh- did you transplant it recently? The pup looks real healthy!
