Default Hello... First Timer Here.

Hi, I am in So. Cal. No. West of LA in Ventura County Simi Valley. I only grew Basoo until I found other varities. I currently have Dwarf Brazilian, Ice Cream, Raja Puri all in to ground in my back yard.

Not sure why but the Raja is the only variety that seems to be slow growing for me.

I have a potted Thai Black Musa. Some say it will offer edible fruit & others say it does not. Anybody have any that they eat? See Pic.

Let me know.

Thanks,

Alex

First of all Welcome.. Slow growing can have everything to do with the soil, pests, location (sunlight /shade).. Lot of banana knowledge on tap here.. You might need a good fertilizer.. Your yard doesn't necessarily have the same soil quality through out.. :^)

Welcome aboard, Alex ! I'll Definitely go with Abnshrek on growing conditions. If ya scroll to the top of the page, you'll see a list of categories in white lettering. The fourth word is "wiki". if ya click on that, you'll get a list of lots of different types of nanner plants. Just click on any nanner plant you're interested in & you can find out more about it!
That's just one source of info, there's lots more. If ya have any questions about using the forum, just ask.

Welcome to the group!! How long has the Raja Puri been planted in it's current location? Also, tell us a little about the environment it is located it(full sun, shady, half day sun, windy, close to other plants, etc.). Is it getting watered regularly, and what kind of fertilizer is it getting and how often? These are some basic things that could indicate what might be going on.

Michael

Hello from Texas!! I'm growing Dwarf Cavendish but also am growing a little Ice Cream pup. This is my first time growing bananas, so it's definitely fun!

Have fun here!!
