Hello fellow banana tree lovers!
I am a newbie to growing banana trees, literally got my first 4 today. Musa Basjoos. They are about 6-8" tall not counting the leaves. I am expecting a Grand Nain tree tomorrow.
I live on the gulf coast of Texas, in Corpus Christi. My soil is very sandy and add to that the extreme heat and drought conditions. I am probably crazy to try to grow banana trees! I have a pool with several Queen Palms around it and thought it would really add to the tropical atmosphere to have some bananas as well. Plus I have to feed my banana bread habit I have plenty of questions and you will be hearing a lot from me soon. Wish me luck! |

Re: Hello fellow banana tree lovers!
Enjoy it here and learn all you can. Mulch a lot and water every other day at least. Also, I think Basjoos are not edible, but I could be mistaken... I do not grow them. Look for Brazilian, Orinoco and Namwah... All strong growers and cold hardy.

What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more. |

Re: Hello fellow banana tree lovers!
You're right about the Basjoo. They are ornamentals.
Thanks for the welcome message! |
