Hey Diana! You really have some great conditions to grow bananas.

Whether or not my bananas make, they are beautiful and we love to see them blooming. Hopefully, we too will have some bananas!

I wish you good luck in your harvesting!
It's amazing that people try to grow bananas in the climate that is not original for the nature of bananas.

We sell Cavendish variety mostly, it's the most common variety in Ecuador for export. Also baby bananas and red bananas. But the demend isnt so big for this bananas, so of course volumes are very small for export.

I uploaded some pictures of our products in the gallery

We work now with Europe. We never had a chance to make business with USA unfortunately. But I know many ecuadorian companies that export to New York and Miami. So Chiquita and Del monte are not the only one on the american market

Welcome Aboard, it's great to have you.

You probably won't do well in the USA market with the Cavendish. The vast majority of Americans seem to prefer a cooking banana as their dessert banana, although there is a member in San Diego that appreciates the Cavendish. and there might be some Closet Cavendish Lovers.

It seems the Namwah is the preferred dessert banana in the USA and it is also the most popular cooking banana in Cuba.

We have a member here that is doing great in the Florida Market with Namwahs.
He gets $36 per carton box of 18.14 kg., here in PR we have to make a profit at $7. It's incredible but that extra $29 would be pure profit.

At those prices a farmer in Ecuador could retire after the first crop.

What is a ballpark figure that a farmer gets in your country?

All depends on the conditions of business, but I think minimum profit they should have is from 1.5-2.0 usd and up. So, its not so bad business for wholesales in Ecuador

Just to be clear...

A farmer in Ecuador gets $1.50 to $2.00 per 40 lbs.
