Cold Hello to every one in the forum.

I just happen to come across this forum while trying to find out more on banana planting and where to get good banana shoots in Kuala Lumpur.

Most of us like to eat bananas as it is hygienic and easy to eat. The skin provides a cover to protect the edible pub within and size-wish normally not too large for anyone's consumption. For big eaters, more can be peeled.

In the market place, we usually get pisang mas or pisang rasturi. I can hardly find pisang raja nowadays. From the internet, I got to know there are so many types of bananas and there are so many sub-types within one particular type. Like the pisang raja, I do not know which particular sub-type I use to buy, now that I know of the many sub-types available.

In particular, I am looking for one which I use to buy in Ayer Itam, Penang which was usually eaten raw and make delicious goreng pisang. It is sweet, smooth, seedless and averagely 6" to 7" long.

I hope I can find it so that I can introduce it to my friends who join me in our weekly gathering in Kuala Lumpur.

Joy Re: Hello to every one in the forum.

Hi Chew and welcome to the board from a fellow M'sian.

If you want to buy 'naner plants in KL area, try MARDI at Serdang or at Klang. They usually have Pisang Mas, Pisang Berangan and occasionally Pisang Raja. These are TC'd plantlets and cost like only rm 2.00 each. It is better to grow TC plantlets as they come from a clean source.

The 'naner which you get from Ayer Itam and can also be used for pisang goreng is the Pisang Raja. Right now, the fruits of this plant is of the highest wholesale value in the country. Penang seems to be buying the bulk of the stock and it is most expensive there.

All the best.

Welcome Chewkf!

You hit jackpot when you joined. You have a neighbor in Tog that has all the common banana varieties and many of the rare ones. You can even be one of the few people to be there when he opens his planned banana plantation/preserve.

Great to have you!

Chong
