Welcome!

Where are you located? I didn't think I could grow nanas either until I stumbled across this forum last winter and now I have several outside. There are some nice cold hardy varieties and LOTS of info and great people here to help!

Deb

welcome VisualStudioPro
what zone are you in the "Japanese Fiber Banana"
This is one of the most exciting bananas. The plant has long, slender, bright green leaves. M. basjoo is the world's cold hardiest banana It is hardy planted in ground -3F and with protective mulching it can survive temperatures reaching down to -20F. Its inflorescence is one of the most beautiful of all bananas. Strong fibers in the trunk of M. basjoo have been used to make fabrics. It is a great landscape plant, it lends a tropical appearance to any situation. This is a great addition for gardeners living in cold temperate areas. M. basjoo also does very well in containers and makes a good interior plant.

this was copied from the Banana kwi every thing you want to know about different plants is in the kwi and if its not ask some one will know the answer you can also search old threads for stuff

As you become more familiar with the site, you wil see that many of us are growing bananas where they are not supposed to grow. i.e Cold areas as well as hot areas like the desert. Stay tuned, you might be amazed.

look at the photo gallery for randy4ut and biggdog, they grow lots of nanas here in tn. and even d&t's photo gallery they grow nanas up north. magicgreen grows nanas in ohio. and i grow nanas in tn. even one of our mods chong grows nanas in the pacific northwest. gabe grows them in colorado. so anytime they tell you you cant grow a banana where you live it is time to break out the shovel and the rake and prove them wrong!. glad you decide to join the org!
