Hello from CO

Hello everyone! I came across this great forum and had to sign up. I am planning on growing 2 types of bananas indoors under MH lighting, these are going to be dwarf varities in containers. Come summer time I will let them get some natural sun. If needed to extend my season in hopes of fruit I will use HPS lighting. I havent decided on which varities to grow yet, still reading and absorbing knowledge. Plus I dont want to have my hands full with two large banana plants here in CO.

Well, wanted to say Hi and hope to hear some feedback about what im trying to acomplish. So feel free to shoot me some pointers on which plants to aim for. I would really like to grow a blue java, but i think thats going to be too big. But more realisticly speaking a dwarf cavendish, dwarf red, dwarf orinoco, somthing like that. Plus I dont want to have to polinate. I plan on posting a grow journal on here too, with pics and such.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome from Kentucky! There are some pretty amazing people on this forum that have unbelievable knowledge. You came to the right place!

I have a mature Dwarf Orinoco that I brought in side last fall and I've decided to keep it in the pot this summer instead of transplanting it back in the bed to alleviate stress of having to dig it back up this fall in case I get lucky and it blooms. It'll be kept outside all summer. Other than that the rest of my back up bananas go back into the ground in the spring.

Another member mentioned that he was able to get a Rajapuri to bear fruit in a pot so I plan on buying one of those to try myself.

Good luck and looking forward to hearing how things go!

Deb

Welcome to the forum! :woohoonaner:

If you are planning on growing fruiting varieties, be sure to use large (25+ gallon) containers.

Welcome from (usually) sunny Ecuador! The Dwarf Orinoco is a great choice, as is the Dwarf Red - both very tasty bananas.

Welcome to the org! Hope you enjoy it here and learn a lot. Yeah, Ice Cream might be a bit large for your purposes. Here are some pics of mine so you know what to expect:

And that's probably a third of its full size LOL.
