Hello from the CAPTAIN BANANA documentary project!
Hello!
I wanted to let you all know about a new documentary about bananas - it's called CAPTAIN BANANA... Centered on the life and tropical expeditions of former sea captain and self-taught botanist, Markku Häkkinen, CAPTAIN BANANA celebrates the personal, cultural and environmental significance of bananas. Taking the viewer on a unique journey to Southeast Asian banana festivals, a banana expedition in the mountain forests of China and to the wintery city of Helsinki, the film explores one man’s undying passion for a very misunderstood fruit, and explains why bananas matter to all of us. Production for the CAPTAIN BANANA documentary began in September 2009, when filmmaker Ryan White travelled to China's Guangdong Province and Northeastern Thailand to film preliminary footage. Next up is a visit to Helsinki to spend time with Markku in his wintery home in Northern Europe, and then a trip to follow him on an expedition to look for a new species of wild banana (Musa) in Yunnan, China. If you'd like to learn more about the film, follow it's progress, or receive updates, please visit the CAPTAIN BANANA profile on IndieGoGo.com: IndieGoGo: CAPTAIN BANANA (please make sure to look at the photos from China/Thailand on the "Updates" page) The documentary team is also looking for funding support to help with the equipment and travel costs for the upcoming shoot in Helsinki. We've set a fundraising goal of $2,500 on IndieGoGo which should be met within the next two months to ensure that everything moves ahead on schedule. Any little bit helps, and you can easily contribute at: IndieGoGo: CAPTAIN BANANA Spreading the word is also one of the most important ways to support the film - so if you know anyone who would be interested in learning more about CAPTAIN BANANA or possibly helping us to reach out fundraising goal, please send the them link or the CAPTAIN BANANA widget from IndieGoGo (see below). If you have any questions or would like any more information about the film, please don't hesitate to send me a message. Take care and thanks for your time! I'll look forward to that! Markku's story is a fascinating one, and many of us only wish that we could go exploring through the forests of China. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Re: Hello from the CAPTAIN BANANA documentary project!
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome to bananas.org!! I really appreciate all your support - and I'll keep you all informed about the progress of the CAPTAIN BANANA project. In the meantime, please keep an eye on the IndieGoGo profile for the film (IndieGoGo: CAPTAIN BANANA), as that is where I'll be updating most regularly - soon I'll be posting some video clips there. And if you know anyone else who might be interested in the documentary, please pass on the info to them too!

Re: Hello from the CAPTAIN BANANA documentary project!
Thank you Greg and everybody else on bananas.org!! I HUGELY appreciate all the support and your belief in the film! We wouldn't be nearly this close to the goal without your help... and, as Greg said, we're almost there!
The MONDO BANANA documentary is 85% Funded and there are 7 days to go with the Kickstarter campaign. As of right now, that means we have to raise another $743 by August 10 or else we don't get any of the funding we've raised so far. Please click here to find out more: MONDO BANANA by Ryan White — Kickstarter WE CAN DO IT!!!! Everything helps push the project closer to the goal, including just getting the word out - so please post on Facebook/Twitter and let other people know that they can help out too. And don't forget, a pledge of $20 will receive a DVD of the film (when it's completed), so supporting the project is almost like pre-ordering your copy of the banana documentary....... Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. THANK YOU!!!! Take care, Ryan |
