hello - Bananas in the uk?

Hi,

I have just joined the group and am trying to grow bananas in the UK.

Anyone else on here from the UK and hopefully had some success?

I have tried to grow bananas before, though not sure what type and they were maybe a bit old. But I now have some pink bananas seeds and some zebrina seeds to try germinating.

Although I also tried germinating a canarian date palm seed and some magnolia seeds that so far havent come to anything either (in a propogator) - hmmm

Any tips would be great!

Hi Val and welcome to the board! :02: There quite a few blokes from UK, Mark Hall, JMoore, Christian Port to name a few and these guys know mucho about 'naners too.
Concerning sd germn, you can check out the Seed Germination Forum. Here you should find answers to some of your questions. If not, post it, some one will surely come along to help out.
All the best!

Welcome Val, I'm sure some of the UK growers will find you soon. Kepp us posted how you're doing. When you get time like Tog mentioned , check out this site and some older posts, we can help if you're having trouble. Good luck.

Welcome to the site! I hope you enjoy it here. The people are most kind and very helpful! As for your question about growing naners in the UK....I'm not entirely sure, but I'm sure if you get the right variety it would be possible. Worst case scenario, you dig them up and bring them indoors during the winter months (or chop them off, dig up the corm and overwinter it dormant). Good luck!

Hi Val

Yes, Im from Bromley in Kent & yes I have had great success over the past few years growing Bananas (although I only leave my Basjoo's out to overwinter). I've just joined too and have just introduced myself by uploading a couple of photographs of my plants (see Hello from UK II) both before being wrapped up for the winter in October and at 10:00 THIS MORNING !!!. (before the rain came)

Regards

Phil
