Hello everyone,
I'm new to the banana.org forum. I've had a banana plant for about 3 years now but I've just recently gotten really interested in them. The original plant I've had for 3 years now has produced several "offspring" that I have transplanted around my pool area. They grow pretty large in the summer months and die back during the cold months, but they've never produced fruit. I leave them in the ground year round, and until this year I have never attempted to fertilize them at all. I have one other banana plant that I just bought last week from Home Depot. I emailed the grower and was told it was of the "Dwarf Cavendish" variety. I'm also going to post a few images of this new banana plant to see if you guys think it is for sure a Dwarf Cavendish. I've been reading ALOT on this forum and other sites about Banana trees but I do have a few questions. I was wondering if anyone could help me positively ID these plants. The first one (I've had for 3 years) was given to me as a small sucker. I have NO IDEA what type of plant it is. It dies back in the winter and is currently around 7-8' tall. I've transplanted some of it's offspring that are around 2-3' tall and growing (with their own little offspring growing beside them now) The second one I was told is a Dwarf Cavendish but was hoping to get a positive ID on it as well. I'm uploading some pictures to my gallery. I bought some granular fertilizer to give these guys in hopes that they will reach their full potential this year, but I'm not sure I got the right fertilizer. The fertilizer is a 10-10-10, granular, vertigro is the brand I believe. If this fertilizer is acceptable, how much should I be giving these guys? Thanks in advance for any info, this forum seems very helpful! Chris H Atlanta, Ga |
