Talking Hello all

Hi everyone, I'm new to banana's, didn't know they'd grow in temperate regions. I'm on the Eastern Shore of Md(zone 7) and wanted to know which types are hardy for my region. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Jozon, you will not believe the wealth of information that the members of this forum will provide to you. That along with encouragement, support and analysis of everything to do with growing bananas wherever you live. When you say that you want to grow bananas, do you mean edible or ornamental bananas?
Best of luck, see you in the forum!

I'm happy to grow either as I don't know anything about bananas edible or ornamental, my only experience being the grocery store. I happen to find a Basjoo at Lowes and have put it in the garden with fingers crossed and will see what happens. This was the only type Lowes sold and I didn't know if there were others that could survive zone 7.

Thanks Taylor. I'll start googling. Is there an online vendor you've had success with?

People on this forum are extremely helpful. They will sell you big and healthy things at good prices, so don't forget to look around here. Most online vendors will sell little TC plantlets.

Oh, add Velutina to that list (for ornamental). If you get creative with caging you can have a lot.
