Hello my name is George and i am from Attika, Greece. I am new in growing bananas and i am looking forward in trying many cold hardy varieties. I have a winery that includes around 60 acres of vineyards. But between the vineyards there is a small dry creek that is about 50m wide and 400m in lenght with the base of the creek being 20m bellow both sides. In that space i have been planting subtropical fruits trees the last year and i also have the following banana species:
Musa basjoo (2 winters) it is was planted in the ground during the winter of 2018/19 in semishade under oak trees and is now about 2m tall (doesnt defoliate during the winter)
Musella lasiocarpa (2 winters) that always goes dormant for a while, last year it started growing around mid April and looses its leaves way before the first frost.
Musa dwarf namwah (was planted March 10th 2020)
Musa dwarf orinoco (was planted March 20th 2020)
Musa blue java (i think) (was planted March 5th 2020)
Musa bordelon (still in pot)
I am looking to learn a lot of info here and find varieties that can produce fruit quickly

Thanks! but so far its nothing. In a few years i am hoping to have a big collection 😁

Welcome to the Bunch. You have a good start. Use a good vegetable garden type triple fertilizer. It includes the minor elements needed by the plant and supplement extra nitrogen and potassium as needed. ....Many new banana growers do not realize the damaging effects of the radiant heat from the hot sun or how much water is needed by larger plants. If the leaves are dropping during the growing season then the heat or lack of water is the cause. Water spray/mist will help for both. ... OH,, check your soil Ph to know whether the fertilizer needs to be an acid or alkaline type mix.

Thank you very much for the info! I have checked my soil and it is around 7-7.5 pH so i need to make it more acidic. As for fertilizer i was thinking of using cow manure and chicken manure, do you think i should ude vegetable fertilizer?
Only my ice cream is in a location that receives full sun and doesnt have that much humidity.
The basjoo, dwarf namwah and dward orinoco have full sun 70-80% of the day and are inside the creek so they have more than enough humidity and i have installed spray type watering for all them.

Ideally bananas like the PH of 6.4 - 6.5 .... I use vegetable type fertilizer and then add chicken manure (not litter) for the extra nitrogen needed. You can buy the micro elements separate (tomato tone, ect) if you have alot of manure to use. ... I try to push my bananas with as much nitrogen as they can stand (leaves not curling) so watch the leaves.
