Default Hello

I've had some musa basjoo plants for 3 years and this past winter was my first attempt to preserve some of the stem over the winter. I started the spring with about 3 feet more or less of stem on most of my plants. Then a month or 2 ago I bought a Mekong Giant. I'm interested to see what that does.

Welcome from Florida, we are growing 12 Basjoos to use as fodder for our cattle. Will also try a Mekong Giant later but for now too much planting to do. Post pics when it is growing and also progress reports. Good growing.

Cattle fodder? That would be interesting. I have tremendous problems with deer predation at my house in St. Louis County. My back yard abuts common ground with a creek that runs into a large county park here and the deer are like squirrels. They get on people's porches and eat the potted plants. I can't grow tomatoes because they don't just nibble the plants. They jerk them out of the ground. But they don't touch the banana's. I wonder if the cows will find them to be edible?

Cow's milk question; It's been 50 years since we had a cow, but yes, the food does have an effect on the milk. You don't want them grazing on a lot of wild onions or garlic. And their diet can make a difference in the amount of cream, type of lipids in the milk, and the general amount of milk production.
