I came to this site quite by accident, but I am hoping that with a little help from all of you, I might actually keep my banana tree alive and maybe even harvest some bananas.
I got my banana tree early this year from a Nursery. It is about 5ft tall and it has been pretty happy all this time. I still have it in a planter, and when I moved in June I was pretty worried about the heat, so it has been sitting under my Mesquite tree. I would spray it's leaves along with watering it daily to every other day, and it loved it.
We got a cold snap about a week ago and it seemed to have shocked it a little. The edges of the leaves browned a little and now one of my leaves has turned completely yellow. I am concerned about my banana tree, since it has been happy for so long. Do you recommend my transplanting it to a bigger container? Or should I move it out from under the tree now, so it gets more sun? Or should I just leave it alone, now that it has warmed up again and see what happens?

Im not a pro but I think it should be just fine im learning that the bananas are pertty tough. Im happy you found us.

What zone are you in and what kind of naner do you have? BTW--not uncommon for naners to have leaves turn yellow as day gets shorter. Also, you should be aware that as temps drop below 60 naners do not need much water--when it is cool, keep it dry or it can rot.

Welcome & enjoy they banana folks and Information.. No idea how cold it gets in scottsdale.. but like sBL said you need to lay-off the soaking when it cools down or your going to have a drowned rotting banana.. Good Luck

! From what I hear, Arizona gets pretty cold at nights. If it gets below 50 degrees F, the banana plant could go dormant. I always dig mine up, pot them, & bring them indoors before that happens. If you have winters as cold as central Oklahoma, ya might wanna do the same. I have 4 nanners inside right now. 3 are more than 8' and my plantain is about 7' tall. They all have yellow leaves (normal for fall) & so do my Elephant Ears.
Think Sbl's right about the "shorter days" thing. He's also Definitely right about the water thing. Cold + water = corm-rot.
It's a very friendly & info-packed forum so you'll definitely wanna do some more reading before ya decide. If ya have any questions about using the forum, just ask.
