Re: Hallo to all the Forum
Prego! My dream is to go to Italy one day! My family was from there originally! Napoli, Calabria and Sicilia. Are bananas cultivated in Italy? I see the Italian government is very supportive of biodiversity international! Fantastico!
Grazie e ciao! John

Re: Hallo to all the Forum
Bananas are relatively common (but not close to Florida) in Sicily and in Calabria especially in the variety of Dwarf Orinoco (Varietà "Comune di Sicilia" banana from more than 1000 years in Sicily...) . You should search for some plants of bananas also in the Campania Region (Napoli) expecially on her Archipelago Islands (Capri Island and Sorrento area) but our climate is way drier in terms of Summer precipitation than Florida that is basically tropical . Anyway i think that also Florence has a good insolation (solar energy) because of my annual long calculations and observations (and studies) . Beeing slightly or decisely under 45 parallel stands for a good solar energy year round (with appropriate differences between various locations) . So...who knows...i am hoping to plant my dwarf cavendish somewhere in the background gardens of my palace . I hope my grammar isn't bad ;-)

Re: Hallo to all the Forum
Yes and it is a trademark garanteed and protected also the variety of Florentine tomato "Bitorsoluto" pomodoro fiorentino bitorsoluto d.o.c.g. that stands for "of garanteed controlled origin" by italian governament ! It is very special . I know precisely that a Dwarf Namwah all year round outside in the ground has fruited 2 years ago in Firenze , Toscana with harvest and eating by cooking fried and in other way and raw !

Re: Hallo to all the Forum
Hi Marco,
Yes, I see this d.o.c also for San Marzano. Amazing about the Nam wa. Is Firenze zone 8b? I see some on this org that grow in the same zone and can be of great assistance. I still need to research "Comune di Sicilia" banana from more than 1000 years in Sicily." Buona Notte! John

Re: Hallo to all the Forum
Thank you to all ! I think Firenze has different microclimates . At distances of 5-6 miles it can be easily 8b or 9a (or 8a) . And during some "rare" winters it can have 4-5 days with minimum around -10 C . During daytime usually temperatures rise up several or many degrees due to the relative continental caratheristics and solar energy . Firenze has temperatures so law (-10 Celsius) only , i would say , with cristal clear skies . Sometimes it can rain all day for 2 or 3 days with 14-15 degress celsius during Christmas
