Default growing bananas in the desert

Hi,

I really love growing tropical fruits. I am originally from Kansas, where the most exotic thing that we could grow was a mulberry tree or elderberries. Now that I live in Arizona, with subtropical weather, I am really addicted to growing tropical. I have two banana plants currently: a Mona Lisa and a Goldfinger. The mona lisa is about 15 months old and really starting to take off. The Goldfinger is younger, only about 3 months old. Growing tropical in the desert near Phoenix is a bit of a challenge. It is not the heat but the cold and the intense sun we get that really makes growing tropicals hard. I the plant can survive the first summer, you practically have it made.

I been growing bananas in pots in WA state for many years even had 3 of them bloom in the last few years. We might be relocating to the Phoenix area in the next year so I am excited to hear I can keep growing them there and put them in the ground so I don't have to deal with heavy pots anymore.
