Greetings and Salutations
I'm a new member that joined because I'm interested in possibly growing some bananas and this seemed like a good place to soak up some knowledge. My only experience with bananas was some red ornamental variety that my mom had in our yard when I was in high school in Florida.

Re: Greetings and Salutations
Welcome! Wonderful place - MS! I was a senior FEMA project officer in MS in the aftermath of Katrina. Spent most of my time in Hattiesburg, but also did some work in Jackson, Laurel, Richton, Picayune, Purvis, Beloxie, etc. but mostly in Perry and Pearl River Counties. I was in charge of all the schools and government buildings there. I loved the people there, they were so nice! Also, everywhere I went there, I saw at least half a dozen yards with banana plants. There was a Latté place in Purvis, on my way to the office, with a stalks of bananas on two sides that were green until mid-December, then by late February they started sprouting green again. Very, very impressive. I don't know how much colder it is in Vicksburg, but the ones I saw in the Jackson area were doing great. I betcha, Dwarf Orinoco would do very well there. So good luck with your growing.

Re: Greetings and Salutations
Driving around, I've certainly seen bananas in a number of people's yards. In fact, one of them even had a few hands of green bananas on it, so I'm hopeful.
