Greetings Banana Dudes
Hi folks,
Firstly, thanks for all the great information on this site. I live in Manchester, UK, and just got the banana bug about 3 weeks ago when I learned from the internet that I can actually grow real banana plants in this cool, wet and dull climate that I live in. I was reluctant to believe it but I've seen so many photos, and other UK banana growers' accounts of success that I just had to give it a try. I plan on getting a Musa Basjoo eventually,as I realise its probably the most suitable banana plant for my area, but, and I may be crazy, I always get a greater feeling of accomplishment if I grow something from seed. To which end I purchased 15 Musa Sikkimensis seeds and have had them in a heated propegator for just over a week. I'll post more in the seed germination thread. I have wild visions of a huge mat of exotic banana plants filling my front garden and blowing the minds of the locals. Most of the gardens around here are just very plain - a simple lawn, many of them are concrete. Anyway, I'm thrilled I've joined this site. I think I have probably read just about every thread on here since I joined a week or two ago and look forward to reading many more and meeting you all. Thanks & regards, Mike |

Re: Greetings Banana Dudes
Welcome! Mow your lawn ... with a rototiller. With the same water and nutrients, each 1.5 x 1.5 meter patch of lawn could instead support a semi-dwarf fruit tree or a full-size banana plant !

Re: Greetings Banana Dudes
Thanks all for the warm welcome. Richard - rototiller is great advice. Who needs grass anyway? Look forward to hopefully contributing something to the forum.
